Record to an external SSD, or export your clips to one
Can my iPhone record video straight to an external SSD?
Log Cam: RAW 4K Video Camera records to the iPhone, or to an external drive. Pick an external SSD or hard drive as the destination, and your clips land on it as you shoot. The drive connects directly to the phone, and no computer is necessary. You can also export clips you already recorded, to a drive or into the Files app.
Storage for long recordings
Long 4K recordings can use a lot of space. File size depends on the codec, bitrate, frame rate, and recording time. An external drive gives you room for longer sessions without filling the iPhone.
ProRes files can be much larger than HEVC files from the same session. The app also offers HEVC bitrate presets from 30 to 500 Mbps. Choose the format that fits your edit and the space you have.
Record straight to the drive
Connect the drive, select it as the recording destination, and start recording. The clips are on the drive from the first frame, so there is no offload from the phone afterwards. You can review them in the app’s gallery while the drive is selected and connected.
Export clips from your iPhone
For clips already on your iPhone, choose a connected drive or a location in the Files app as the export destination.
