Where does my video go after I record it?

Log Cam: RAW 4K Video Camera puts every clip you record into the app’s own gallery. The gallery is the one place your clips are, so you always know where to look. From the gallery you can export a clip to an external SSD, a hard drive, or the Files app.

A gallery inside the camera app sounds like a small thing. It is not small the first time you cannot find the clips from a day. Video is the file type that people lose most easily. They record video in volume and rarely look at it twice on the same day. One place that is always the same place removes that problem.

The gallery also changes how the end of a day feels. You stop the camera and open the gallery. You see what you got, in the same app you shot it in.

This matters more with log than with ordinary video. A log clip does not look like the finished picture. It is flat and gray until you grade it. The flat picture gives you no confidence in what you shot. The gallery does.

The gallery is also where you sort your clips before they leave the phone. A review on the phone is not grading. It is where you find which clips are worth an edit and which ones failed. Do that pass before the transfer, not after. Then you move only the clips you will use, not everything you recorded.

One point is true of every iOS app, not only this one. Files that an app keeps inside itself are deleted with the app. So a delete and a reinstall will not fix a problem and keep your clips. A move to a new phone needs the same thought. If the video matters, export it from the app.

The export path is for exactly that, and the gallery is where it starts. An external SSD or hard drive connected to the phone is one destination. The Files app is the other. A clip that you send to either one is outside the app from then on. You can also pick the drive before you record, and then your clips land on it as you shoot.
